When you work as much as I do, sometimes it's possible to have your head down for hours. This is great most of the time. I get a lot of billable work done, and that's good for business. It also provides me with a lot of uninterrupted time to get things done.
Not looking up, though, can make us insular. We begin to think that the way we've always done something is the best way, even though there might be better options outside our bubble. When we look up, our options change. Our opportunity for improvement...well...improves.
All of a sudden, that process for building invoices that you thought was perfect is confronted with a new solution, and you save more time.
Look up. Observe how others do things. Learn about your options. When you do this, you open a door to change that can make everything better.
